Martins Vincent Otse (born 8 April 1994), widely known as “Very Dark Man” or “VDM*”, is a Nigerian social media influencer and activist whose outspoken style has made him one of the most polarizing figures in digital advocacy today. Born in Kaduna and of Edo State origin, he grew up witnessing societal inequalities that helped shape his sense of justice and commitment to speaking out against corruption, fraud, and other systemic issues in Nigeria.
VDM first emerged in public consciousness in 2022, using platforms like Instagram and TikTok to confront issues ranging from unethical consumer practices to political and social injustices. Early in his activism, he gained attention for exposing alleged malpractice by popular brands and holding them accountable for consumer safety concerns.
By 2023, his bold and sometimes controversial content had gone viral, catapulting his follower count into the millions and drawing both support and scrutiny. His influence was further validated when renowned Nigerian singer Davido followed and endorsed him on Instagram, and he was eventually nominated for the “Silverbird Most Influential Social Media Influencer of the Year” ward, highlighting his cultural impact.
However, his activism has not been without controversy. VDM has repeatedly clashed with high-profile figures, leading to legal challenges, including court restrictions for alleged defamatory content and allegations of cyberstalking, which sparked national debate about the limits of digital speech and accountability.
Love him or criticize him, Very Dark Man has reshaped how digital activism intersects with Nigerian public life, pushing contentious issues into national conversation.
