African American creator Darren Watkins Jr., better known as IShowSpeed, made history during his “Speed Does Africa” tour by engaging deeply with the heart of Namibia’s cultural heritage. Ending his 20-country journey in Namibia, Speed travelled to meet the Himba people, a subgroup of the Herero nation and one of Africa’s most visually striking and spiritually grounded indigenous tribes.

In a moment that transcended typical travel content, Speed didn’t just watch, he respectfully participated. Introduced to Himba hosts, he removed his personal accessories and was guided into traditional attire by adorable Himba women. They applied the tribe’s signature red ochre, an organic earth pigment symbolising life, protection, and ancestral continuity, across his body and hair, and gave him a walking stick, a sign of rootedness and respect in their culture.
Rather than just broadcasting his experience, Speed knelt and humbly listened to the Himba elders and spiritual leaders, showing reverence for their ancestral spirituality and deep connection with land and lineage. The encounter highlighted not only the aesthetic beauty of Himba customs but also their philosophical richness, a blend of community, canine-handcrafted traditions, and generational cosmic memory.

Throughout his stay, Speed’s curiosity and openness offered millions of viewers a window into a way of life shaped over thousands of years, inspiring many to appreciate ancient Africa with humility and genuine interest.
